School Governance Council

SGC Purpose Statement

The purpose of the School Governance Council is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. The School Governance Council is a governing body that is representative of the community and the school but operates under the control and management of the Board of Education. The Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the school including:

  • Approve the school strategic plan and updates
  • Approve the annual budget and annual resource allocations
  • Manage the Request for Flexibility process
  • Participate in hiring the principal (in the case of a vacancy)
  • Provide annual feedback on principal performance.

All School Governance Council Meetings at McNair Middle School are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm and are open to the public.

Meeting Location

All SGC Meetings will be held in McNair's Media Center unless otherwise indicated.

If you wish to participate in public comment, please email the SGC Chair, Melissa Lewis, to be added to the agenda at least 24 hours prior to the start of the meeting.

Each meeting of the School Governance Council typically generates three public documents: an agenda, a summary of action items that occurred during the meeting, and detailed meeting minutes. We will display these documents on our website for the current school year and those from the previous year.
