School Profile

McNair Middle School is one of 100 schools in the Fulton County School district. It was named after physicist and NASA astronaut, Ronald E. McNair, who perished during the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986.  Prior to becoming Ronald E. McNair Middle School in 1988, it was formerly known as M. D. Collins High School.  Ronald E. McNair is also one of ten schools that is a part of the Fulton County District Achievement Zone.  The mission of the Achievement Zone is to accelerate and concentrate research-based reform efforts, offering a wide range of supports and opportunities to remove obstacles to dramatic school improvement and provide access for all families with students in the zone to receive a high quality education.   The first phase of the Achievement Zone began this year with immediate implementations.  McNair Middle School began with the first round of implementations which included:  implementing a culture of high expectations, recruiting high quality staff and providing intensive support for struggling scholars.

Just recently, our school acquired 1:1 technology grant, so that all of our scholars would have access to technology both at school and at home. Digital Promise and Verizon have partnered with Ronald E. McNair Middle School to create innovative learning environment and fully document the process so others can learn from the experiences of our school. With a goal to close the digital learning gap at a diverse array of middle schools across the nation, the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (DPVILS) program, directed by Digital Promise, provides our students with access to mobile learning technology in the classroom and at home, equips educators with personalized professional development, and supports all participants with a national community of practice.  We are ecstatic about this initiative, especially in lieu of our transition in our new state of the art building.  This new building will support an environment that will increase our students' access to technology, as well as initiatives in the areas of science, engineering and mathematics. The administration, students and staff of McNair Middle School are looking forward to transitioning into our new home in January of 2016.
